Closing ceremony of Fr Alfred Roche's birth centenary to be marked on Apr 3 in Brahmavar

Udupi, Mar 30: The closing ceremony of the birth centenary of servant of God Fr Alfred Roche, OFM Cap will be marked on Thursday, April 3.

The closing ceremony will be held in Holy Family Church, Brahmavar at 11 am. The Holy Eucharistic celebration will be presided over by Fr John Alwyn Dias, OFM Cap, provincial of the Holy Trinity Province, Karnataka.

Holy priest Fr Alfred Roche was born on April 3, 1924 at Pandeshwara Kudru a small island, belonging to St Peter’s Church, Barkur, in the Diocese of Mangalore (presently Diocese of Udupi).

Recognizing his holiness, the Diocese of Udupi and the Capuchin order initiated his cause for Canonization, and he was declared a Servant of God. His centenary celebrations in 2024–25 have rekindled devotion to him, with many faithful seeking his intercession. Every month at the tomb of Fr Alfred Roche in Brahmavar church, a prayer meet is being held. A large number of devotees gather for the prayer meet and receive the intercession of servant of God Fr Alfred Roche. He was declared as a servant of God in 2023 by Dr Gerald Issac lobo, bishop of Udupi. The centenary year memorial was built in Kudru ward of Barkur and was inaugurated on February 5.

A short prayer service will be held along with fellowship meals after the Holy Eucharistic celebrations.

Friars of the Holy Trinity Capuchin Province, Karnataka and parishioners of Brahmavar, Barkur, Lower Kasarkod and Binaga and a large number of faithful are participating in the celebrations.
