New Delhi, Mar 30: Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday emphasized that climate change presents a critical threat to the planet, calling for a united and urgent response to tackle this global challenge.

Speaking as the chief guest at the valedictory session of the National Conference on Environment-2025, organized by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), Dhankhar underscored the need for “immediate, sustained, and collective action” to address environmental degradation. He described climate change as a problem of “immense magnitude” that requires a focused and result-oriented approach.

“Every individual has a role to play in safeguarding our environment. When these individual efforts come together, the impact will be transformative,” the Vice-President remarked. He further stressed the responsibility of the present generation as custodians of nature, ensuring that Earth’s resources are preserved for future generations.

Lauding the efforts of the NGT in environmental protection, Dhankhar gave a new interpretation to its acronym, stating that for him, it stands for ‘Nurturing Green for Tomorrow.’

Calling for a shift in mindset towards environmental ethics, he stated, “Humanity must recognize its moral duty to protect and nurture nature. We must realize nature’s value before it is lost forever.”

The need for sustainable and balanced development was also echoed by President Droupadi Murmu in her inaugural address at the conference on Saturday. She urged citizens to embrace an environmentally conscious lifestyle and emphasized that protecting nature is a “moral responsibility” that parents owe to their children.

“It is our collective duty to leave behind a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations. To achieve this, we must integrate sustainability into our daily lives, ensuring not only conservation but also environmental enrichment,” the President stated.

She highlighted the dual challenge of balancing economic growth with ecological preservation, stressing that India must strive to achieve both simultaneously. “Our vision for 2047 is to make India a developed nation with clean air, water, and abundant greenery, setting an example for the global community,” she asserted.
