Eid-ul-Fitr to be celebrated on Mar 31 in coastal Karnataka

Mangaluru, Mar 30: The Qazis of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Ullal have declared that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday, April 1, as the Shawwal crescent moon was sighted on Sunday evening in Calicut, Kerala.

Earlier, Muslim community members were requested to report the moon sighting to the Udupi, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan district Jamaats, as well as the Qazis of various mohallas in Dakshina Kannada.

Udupi District United Jamaat general secretary Haji M A Bavu Muloor had issued an appeal for confirmation of the sighting, providing designated contact numbers.

With the official announcement, Muslims across the coastal region will now observe Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday, marking the end of Ramadan with prayers and celebrations.
