Prashant Kishor slams Nitish Kumar, alleges BJP controls Bihar’s governance

Patna, Mar 31: Political strategist-turned-leader Prashant Kishor launched a sharp attack on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, alleging that real power in the state rests with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and his selected officers. Speaking in Kishanganj, the Jan Suraj Party chief claimed that Nitish Kumar is no longer in control and is unfit to govern.

"Nitish Kumar is merely a figurehead. His credibility has collapsed over the years. Physically exhausted and mentally unfit, he is incapable of running the government. The BJP has placed him at the helm of Bihar’s 13 crore people, but in reality, Amit Shah and his chosen officials are making the decisions," Kishor alleged.

He also voiced strong opposition to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, arguing that any changes to minority rights granted by the Constitution should not be made without proper consultation with the Muslim community.

"Any interference in the constitutional rights of minorities is unacceptable. If the Waqf Bill is passed, Nitish Kumar and his JDU MPs will bear more responsibility than the BJP. If JDU MPs vote against the bill, it will not pass. Otherwise, they should stop claiming to follow Gandhi and Lohia’s ideals," Kishor said.

During his visit to Kishanganj, Kishor attended the Anjuman Islamia Eid Milan program and offered a chadar at Madrasa Amjadia Eidgah at Qadam Rasul, praying for peace and harmony in society.

His criticism of Nitish Kumar and the BJP’s role in Bihar comes amid growing political uncertainty. Recent public appearances of the Chief Minister have added to speculation about his political future. During a cheque distribution event and the inauguration of the Sepak Takraw World Championship, Nitish Kumar was seen laughing and talking during the national anthem, raising further questions about his leadership.

With the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections approaching, Kishor’s remarks are expected to fuel political debates on Nitish Kumar’s governance and the BJP’s influence in the state’s administration.
