Salman Rushdie's Name Off Jaipur Festival's Events Roster

New Delhi, Jan 17 (IANS): Award winning writer Salman Rushdie, the author of "The Satanic Verses" and "Midnight's Children", seems to be off the DSC Jaipur Literature Festival events roster.

His name has been removed from the programme list, sources said.

Rushdie was to address a literary session, "Midnight's Children" named after his landmark Man Booker Prize winning 1981 novel, anchored by noted writer Hari Kunzru at the Diggi Palace in Jaipur.

On Jan 21, Rushdie was to take part in a group discussion, "Inglish, Amlish, Hinglish: The Chutneyfication of English" featuring Rita Kothari, Tarun Tejpal and Ira Pande.

The following day, the 65-year-old Rushdie would have joined 'Shehar aur Sapna: The City as a Dream' with Pakistani writers Mohammed Hanif and Aman Sethi.

However, managing director of Teamworks Production Sanjoy Roy, who organises the festival, said "the Jaipur Literature Festival stood by its invitation to Rushdie".

A source said he might attend the festival.
