Patna, Apr 1: A police misconduct case has sparked outrage in Bihar after a viral video showed an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and two Home Guard personnel allegedly assaulting a driver and demanding a bribe on NH-19 in Mohania.
Reacting swiftly, Kaimur SP Harimohan Shukla suspended ASI Prabhat Kumar and recommended action against the two Home Guards. An investigation, led by an SDPO-rank officer, has been ordered.

“As soon as we learned about the incident, ASI Prabhat Kumar was suspended, and a request was sent to the District Magistrate for the removal of the two Home Guard jawans,” Shukla said.
According to reports, the officers were stationed at an integrated check post when they intercepted a truck and allegedly demanded a bribe to let it pass. The video shows the police beating the driver with a baton and forcing him into a police vehicle after he allegedly refused to pay.
The incident has triggered a political storm, with Bihar’s opposition party RJD launching a scathing attack on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government. Sharing the video on social media, the party accused police officers of extortion under the so-called “DK tax.”
“You have to pay Bihar Police! Either get beaten up or quietly empty your pockets! With elections approaching, officers are under pressure to extort more for Nitish Kumar and BJP,” RJD wrote on ‘X’.
As the controversy escalates, all eyes are now on the probe to determine further action against the accused officers.
