Srinivas University Institute of Nursing Sciences holds lamp lighting, oath-taking ceremony

Mangaluru, Apr 3: The Srinivas University Institute of Nursing Sciences celebrated the lamp lighting and oath-taking ceremony for the 6th batch of BSc nursing students at the Mukka campus, Dental College Auditorium on April 2. The event marked a significant milestone in the journey of aspiring nurses, symbolizing their dedication to the noble profession of healthcare.

The ceremony was graced by chief guest Prof Dr Thereza Mathias, head of the department of mental health nursing at Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing, Mangaluru. Addressing the gathering, she emphasized the importance of lighting the lamp as a representation of knowledge, dedication, and purity. "This marks the beginning of your journey into the world of caring," she stated. Recalling the hardships faced during the COVID-19 pandemic, she acknowledged the invaluable role of healthcare professionals in serving humanity.

The programme was presided over by A Vijayalakshmi R Rao, trustee member, board of governors, Srinivas University. In her address, she encouraged students to serve society and their patients with a smile, reinforcing the idea that compassionate care aids in faster healing. She highlighted the selfless service of nurses who contribute significantly to patient recovery with their medical expertise and affectionate care.

Er A Mitra S Rao, trustee member, board of governors, emphasized that nursing is a profession where caregivers bring light into the lives of patients. "We understand the value of light only when we experience darkness. Illness is that darkness, and you, as nurses, will be the guiding light of care and healing," she said. She urged students to remain focused on their patients, reminding them that nursing demands skill, empathy, and unwavering commitment.

The significance of the lamp lighting ceremony and the noble profession of nursing were elaborated on by Prof Deepa Danieal. The oath was administered by Dr Juby Mary Chacko, dean, institute of nursing sciences, who also extended a warm welcome to the gathering. The ceremony concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by assistant professor Varshitha. The programme was beautifully compered by students Sara and Nayana.
