Puttur: Series of thefts reported in Bolanthila; cash, jewellery stolen

Puttur, Apr 4: A series of thefts were reported in the early hours of Thursday at Bolanthila in Nekkilady village, with burglars breaking into four houses and stealing Rs 4.80 lac in cash along with gold ornaments.

At the residence of Ajaruddin, burglars broke open the front door and stole Rs 2.80 lac. The family was away at a relative’s house for a function. Thieves also targeted the rented house of Nawaz, stealing Rs 2 lac in cash and gold ornaments weighing four grams.

In another incident, the house of Mohammed Siraj, an employee of Puttur taluk panchayat, was ransacked. The burglars broke open the cupboards and stole silver anklets and Rs 3,000 in cash.

Additionally, the old house of Ratnavathi, a local gram panchayat member, was also broken into, but no valuables were reported missing.

The thieves even raided the refrigerator at Mohammed Siraj’s house, consuming stored food before fleeing.

Fingerprint experts and a canine squad were called to the scene as police began their investigation.
