Jammu, Apr 4: In a significant breakthrough, Jammu police have arrested three individuals, including a lawyer, for their involvement in a daring daylight robbery at a jewellery shop in the Greater Kailash area of Jammu city earlier this year.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Joginder Singh, the mastermind behind the heist has been identified as Rahul Sharma, a lawyer from Lower Kana, Bishnah. The other two accused, Sunil Sharma (26) and Tushar Kumar (22), carried out the robbery under his guidance.

The trio reportedly drew inspiration from a high-profile gold heist that took place in Delhi’s Samaypur Badli area in 2023, police sources revealed.

The robbery occurred on February 1, when two armed men stormed into Anand Jewellers in Greater Kailash, holding the lone woman shop owner at knifepoint. The robbers made away with gold ornaments, cash worth lakhs, and a mobile phone before fleeing the scene.

Following the incident, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by SP (City South) was constituted, employing advanced technological tools and intelligence-based efforts to track down the accused.

“The robbery case has been solved, and the culprits have been brought to justice. Some of the stolen jewellery has also been recovered,” SSP Joginder Singh told reporters.

The police have urged shopkeepers to exercise caution, limit the display of valuable items, and promptly report suspicious activities by contacting the nearest police station or dialling 100.

Authorities believe that solving this case may provide vital clues to cracking other unresolved theft cases in the city.
