New Delhi, Apr 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday unveiled an ambitious 21-point action plan aimed at enhancing regional cooperation and economic integration during the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, held virtually with participation from leaders of all member countries.
The summit, which focused on promoting connectivity, trade, and security among the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) nations, witnessed PM Modi emphasizing the need for strengthened collaboration to tackle common challenges such as terrorism, climate change, and health emergencies.
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi stated, “BIMSTEC is a bridge that connects South and Southeast Asia. To ensure peace, prosperity, and security in our region, we must work together with renewed determination and commitment.”
The comprehensive 21-point action plan announced by PM Modi includes measures aimed at enhancing maritime cooperation, promoting digital infrastructure, strengthening disaster management mechanisms, and boosting cultural and people-to-people exchanges. A strong emphasis was placed on promoting trade facilitation, tourism, agricultural cooperation, and enhanced connectivity across member nations.
Additionally, the plan outlines initiatives to combat the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure sustainable economic recovery through coordinated efforts.
The summit concluded with leaders expressing their collective commitment to implementing the action plan and fostering greater unity and progress across the region.
