Tiruchi, Apr 4: In a proactive step to curb the spread of rabies, the Tiruchi Corporation launched a city-wide anti-rabies vaccination camp on Friday. The initiative was flagged off by mayor M Anbazhagan at the Corporation’s main office, in the presence of commissioner V Saravanan, city health officer M Vijay Chandran and deputy mayor G Dhivya.

With an estimated 43,767 stray dogs within city limits, the Corporation has already sterilised and vaccinated over 21,770 of them in the past two years. As per protocol, rabies vaccines need to be administered once every two years, prompting the civic body to initiate a booster dose campaign.

In the first phase, 5,000 stray dogs will receive booster shots. Officials stated that special camps will be conducted regularly to cover the remaining population. The drive aims to ensure continued protection against the rabies virus and maintain public health safety across the city.
