Mumbai, Apr 5: Authorities in Maharashtra's Thane district have apprehended a 29-year-old man accused of the heinous crime of raping and impregnating a vulnerable 13-year-old girl battling cancer. The suspect was taken into custody in Bihar on Thursday, according to police reports released on Saturday.
Details from the investigation reveal a disturbing breach of trust. The accused, who shared a village in Bihar with the victim's family, had reportedly facilitated their move to Badlapur two months prior. He had also been involved in assisting with the young girl's medical treatment.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kale stated that the man allegedly exploited the girl's vulnerability, sexually assaulting her on three separate occasions when she was alone in their residence.

The horrifying discovery of the child's pregnancy was made during a routine examination at a Mumbai hospital where she was undergoing chemotherapy for her cancer.
Promptly following this revelation, law enforcement registered a case under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Senior Inspector Kiran Balwadkar confirmed the sequence of events, stating, "The accused had arranged for the victim's family to stay in Badlapur and was helping with her treatment. During this time, he raped her and she got pregnant."
Following his arrest, the accused has been placed in judicial custody, and a thorough investigation into this deeply disturbing case is currently underway.
