Mangaluru: Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao directs completion of Indoor Sports Complex by April 15

Mangaluru, April 5: Dinesh Gundu Rao, the minister in-charge of the district, has instructed that the ongoing work on the indoor sports complex being constructed at Urwa Market in Mangaluru be expedited and completed by April 15.

The minister visited the site of the indoor stadium on Saturday to review the progress of the construction work.

The sports complex will soon be dedicated to sports activities, providing top-tier facilities to the district's sporting community.

Minister Gundu Rao gave strict instructions that there should be no delays beyond the scheduled deadline. “We will not allow any delay. The work must be completed by the specified date. This will provide a significant boost to the sports infrastructure in the district,” he emphasised.

District commissioner Mullai Muhilan briefed the minister on the details, stating that the indoor sports complex will feature 11 courts for badminton and kabaddi.

All necessary facilities for athletes have been installed, including a resting room, gym, cafeteria, and vehicle parking. Three lifts will be operational within the complex, he said.

The indoor sports complex is being developed under the Smart City project at a cost of Rs 33 crore. The deputy commissioner further highlighted that the facility will offer state-of-the-art amenities to support various sports and recreational activities.

The meeting was attended by MLC Manjunath Bhandary, Smart City managing director Raju, assistant director of Youth Empowerment and Sports Pradeep D’Souza, district Badminton Association president Santom Kumar, Supreet Alva, and other officials.
