New Delhi, Apr 7: Marking the occasion of World Health Day, the Government of India on Monday urged citizens to adopt simple yet impactful habits nutritious food, adequate sleep, and regular physical activity to ensure better health and well-being. The theme for this year’s World Health Day is ‘Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures.’
Taking to social media platform X, the ministry of Health and Family Welfare said, “This #WorldHealthDay, let’s commit to small healthy habits for a brighter, stronger future.” The ministry also shared a short awareness video encouraging people to eat more fruits and vegetables, increase physical movement, and reduce sedentary behaviour.
“Walk, run, dance, or stretch for 30 minutes a day to stay fit,” advised the Ministry. It also highlighted the importance of good sleep, saying, “Take a good night’s sleep to recharge your body and mind.” The video also promoted increased water intake to “keep the body cool and energy high,” and urged people to care for their mental health by taking regular breaks.
“On this World Health Day, let's promise to take care of our health every single day,” the Ministry said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon citizens to adopt a healthier lifestyle and fight against the rising obesity trend in the country. “Good health is the foundation of every thriving society,” he posted on X.
In a video message, PM Modi drew attention to a recent report warning that by 2050, over 44 crore Indians could be affected by obesity if corrective measures aren’t taken.
“You all know that today, our lifestyle is becoming a big threat to our health... This is scary. How big a crisis can this be?” he said.
The Prime Minister urged people to take immediate and simple steps, including cutting down cooking oil usage by 10 per cent, calling it a meaningful move to reduce obesity levels.
“We have to make exercise a part of our daily life. If we keep ourselves fit, then it will be a big contribution to the journey of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India),” he added.
With the government and the Prime Minister sounding the alarm and encouraging preventive action, this year’s World Health Day saw renewed focus on grassroots health awareness and lifestyle changes for a healthier nation.
