Brahmavar, Apr 7: A significant meeting was held on April 7 at the Brahmavar Mini Vidhana Soudha, where Brahmavar Tahsildar Shrikanth Hegde, along with officials from the National Highway Authority of India, discussed the feasibility report for the proposed flyover in Brahmavar.

The growing number of accidents in the Brahmavar region has raised serious concerns, prompting protests from various organizations. In response to these concerns, Udupi district’s deputy commissioner was instructed to submit a final report by April 8. This led to a meeting between the National Highway Authority of India and the tahsildar to discuss the flyover construction and its feasibility.

During the meeting, Javid Ajma, the project director and president of the National Highway Authority of India, explained that while the construction of a service road could begin immediately, the actual flyover construction would likely start in September. He further estimated that the cost of building the flyover would be around Rs 40 cr.

In the interim, the National Highway Authority of India has been instructed to build a service road to prevent vehicles from travelling in the wrong direction. The Tahsildar also directed the installation of traffic signals, the imposition of reduced speed limits, and the use of speed breakers to improve safety in the area.

Following the meeting, Tahsildar Shrikanth Hegde spoke to the media, stating, “The National Highway Authority has confirmed that they will prioritise the construction of the service road. They have also provided an estimate for the cost of building the flyover, which will span from Brahmavar Akashvani to the Brahmavar SMS Bus Stand Circle. The final decision report will be submitted by the District Commissioner on Tuesday, April 8.” He emphasised that the need for a flyover had been recognised, and a decision had been made to proceed with the proposal.

The meeting was attended by several key officials, including Udupi District DYSP Prabhu T, police circle inspector Divakar, and representatives from the National Highway Authority of India.
