Brahmavar, April 7: The protest demanding a fair inquiry into the Brahmavar sugar factory scam, which has now entered its 45th day, saw a visit from Legislative Assembly Speaker U T Khader.
The protest is led by former Assembly Speaker Pratapchandra Shetty and organised by the Udupi Zilla Raitha Sangha. The farmers are demanding a thorough investigation into the alleged Rs 14 crore scam involving the sale of scrap from the Brahmavar sugar factory.
During his visit, U T Khader met with the protesters, received their memorandum, and assured them that appropriate action would be taken.

Speaking to the crowd, he said, “The Raitha Sangha is protesting in favour of the state government, as the money from the sale should have been deposited into the state treasury. I will speak with the concerned department and ensure necessary action is taken. I urge the protest leaders to call off the protest. I will act immediately. No one should think they can escape by fooling the government and public treasury.”
