Mangaluru, April 9: A large-scale protest rally has been organised for April 11, Friday, at 4 pm near the Al Mubarak Jumma Mosque, K C Road Junction, to strongly oppose the unconstitutional Waqf Amendment Act passed by the central government.
The protest will demand the immediate withdrawal of the controversial law. This announcement was made by U Abdul Salaam, president of the Joint Civil Forum, during a press conference held at the Press Club.
The protest is expected to see significant participation from religious and community leaders, with representatives from mosques, madrasas, and organisations across the Ullal taluk. Muslim religious leaders and community figures will also be part of the demonstration.
The event will be led by the joint qazi of K C Road Mosque, K P Hussain, and Sayyid Amir Tangal Kinya. It will be inaugurated by Maulana Muneer Sakafi, the Khateeb of K C Road Jumma Mosque. High Court lawyer Muzzaffar Ahmed will provide the opening remarks, while advocate Sudheer Kumar Maroli will deliver the keynote address.
Prominent community figures including Maulana Muhammad Ali Turkalike, Mustaq Henna Baile, Yaqub Kallurpe, A K Kukkila, Saifullah Tangal from Manjeshwar, Advocate Hanif Hudavi, Riyaz Kadumbu, Abdul Rasheed Zaini, and others will also address the gathering.
Siddique Thalapadi, founder president of the Joint Civil Forum, questioned the urgent need for the introduction of the Waqf Amendment Act, saying, "Why was this law brought in so hastily?"
He further explained, "The land under Waqf is donated for the welfare of the Muslim community and has never caused any issues. This land was not taken forcefully but given voluntarily. The central government’s new law has caused unnecessary distress to the Muslim community, and this protest is organised in response to that. This is just the beginning of our efforts."
The press conference also saw the participation of Abbas Haji Peribail, vice president of the Joint Civil Forum, Ullal Taluk; Salaam Uchil, general secretary; Irshad Ajjindak, convenor; Siddique Thalapadi, founder president; and Abdul Raheem, treasurer.
