Ahmedabad, Apr 9: In a fiery address at the Congress Chintan Baithak held on the banks of the Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy called upon the people of India to rally behind the Gandhi family to defeat the BJP, accusing the ruling party of betraying the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and misleading the nation.
Speaking at the introspection meet, Reddy said, “All of us should defeat Godse’s descendants and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I am going back from here with a hope to empower farmers, women, and youth, as discussed in the CWC meeting.” His remarks drew sharp political lines, invoking the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi and contrasting it with what he termed as the divisive politics of the current regime.

The Telangana CM, who vowed to stop the BJP's advance in his home state, appealed to all those who believe in Gandhian values to support Rahul Gandhi in his fight against the Modi government. “I urge all followers of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology to stand by Rahul Gandhi,” he said, as quoted in a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office.
Drawing historical parallels, Reddy remarked, “Mahatma Gandhi fought the British for over 30 years, including the Dandi Satyagraha. Yet, they never laid a hand on him. But within six months of India’s independence, Godse killed him.”
Slamming the BJP’s economic policies, he took a dig at the Centre’s failure to deliver on job promises, saying, “PM Modi had promised two crore jobs every year. Eleven years have passed the Centre should have created over 20 crore jobs by now. But only Modi and Amit Shah have got the jobs.”
Criticizing the Modi government for its treatment of the farming community, Reddy denounced the introduction of what he called ‘black laws’ against farmers. “For 14 to 15 months, the farming community fought against these draconian laws, yet the Central government never even invited them for talks,” he said.
Highlighting the achievements of the Congress government in Telangana, he stated that the party had swiftly delivered on promises made by Rahul Gandhi. “We waived off Rs 21,000 crore in farm loans and gave relief to 25 lac farmers within just 10 months of coming to power,” he said. He also added that the government had completed the caste census, another key Congress agenda point.
Reflecting on Telangana’s history, Revanth Reddy praised Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for their role in liberating the region from the Nizam’s rule. “Telangana people share a bond with the people of Gujarat because of Sardar Patel’s contribution. While Vallabhbhai Patel liberated Telangana, it was Sonia Gandhi who granted statehood,” he asserted.
The event marked a key moment in the Congress’ ongoing political campaign, blending ideology with electoral strategy as the party eyes a stronger presence in upcoming polls.
