Kasargod, Apr 10: A large quantity of gold, silver, and other items were recovered from a car that failed to stop during a vehicle inspection and was later intercepted near the Aduru check post in Kasargod.
Two individuals in the car managed to flee. Excise officials were conducting routine vehicle checks at the check post when a white Swift car coming from Sullia was signalled to stop. However, the vehicle sped away, prompting officials to pursue it for about 8 km. The chase ended at Bellige on the Mulleria-Badiyadka road when the driver lost control and crashed into a divider. The two occupants of the car fled the scene.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, officials found 140 grams of gold ornaments, 339.2 grams of silver jewellery, Rs 1.17 lac in cash, broken locks, a gas cutter, and four mobile phones. Investigations have revealed that the car's registration number was fake. Authorities suspect that the individuals were fleeing after committing theft.
A detailed investigation is underway, and police are actively searching for the absconding suspects.
