Vijayendra slams Cong in Udupi rally, labels state govt as ‘anti-people’

Udupi, Apr 10: “The Karnataka state government is not a pro-people government; it is a Hitler government,” said BJP state president B Y Vijayendra during the Janaakrosha Yatra organized by Udupi district BJP, criticising the Congress-led state government. The event took place near the Udupi district BJP office on April 10.

Addressing the large gathering, Vijayendra said, “The Congress government has completely ignored Karnataka’s coastal belt. During Yediyurappa’s tenure, Rs 19,500 crore was sanctioned for the region, but not a single grant has been given under Siddaramaiah. The chief minister has not even set foot in Dakshina Kannada or Udupi, clearly showing discrimination. It is hard to tell whether he is leading the entire state or just Bengaluru. Even senior Congress leader Basavaraj Rayareddy has admitted the truth. After scams like the Valmiki Development Corporation and MUDA, there is disillusionment within their own party. Development has come to a halt. Under the BJP, Karnataka was second only to Gujarat in progress. Today, it tops the charts in corruption, all thanks to Siddaramaiah. The Congress has always failed Dalits. Their claims of supporting Ambedkar and Gandhi are hollow. True empowerment of Dalits is happening under Narendra Modi’s leadership, not under Congress.”

He further stated, “This is not a people’s government, but one built on advertisements. Instead of supporting the poor, it has burdened them with rising prices. Development is at a standstill, and the administration is focused solely on appeasing minorities. It has become an anti-Hindu government. Our protest is not linked to elections — this is about real issues. Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar did padayatras for River Krishna and Mekedatu before elections, but no irrigation projects have been delivered. Has the CM even visited Udupi? Where is the development funding? Repeated appeals for the Kaup Mariyamma Temple have gone unanswered, while Yediyurappa ensured temple funding during his term. Siddaramaiah behaves as if he is CM for only one community. He has allocated funds for Muslim girls’ self-protection, but Hindu girls facing threats like love jihad are ignored. Salaries for Maulvis were increased, and project costs were raised by 4%. When BJP MLAs protested, they were suspended for six months. Is this democracy? They speak of Ambedkar and the Constitution, yet they have betrayed Dalits. Dalits are being used as a vote bank without any genuine effort towards their education or empowerment.”

“Our Janaakrosha Yatra is a fight against inflation, corruption, and misuse of SC funds. Even the CM’s own economic advisor admits Karnataka ranks first in corruption. They talk about the Shakti scheme, but in rural areas, government buses do not run. Diesel prices have increased by Rs 7.5 in just 20 months. Farmers are struggling to get water to their fields. Dissent is being crushed, cases are filed against BJP workers and journalists for speaking out. But we won’t be intimidated. Narendra Modi’s leadership has made India a global power, and we will ensure Karnataka returns to the path of good governance. Bringing BJP back to power with a clear majority is our mission,” Vijayendra asserted.

MLA Sunil Kumar, addressing the media, said, “The Congress government in Karnataka has utterly failed in governance. Even the chief minister’s own economic advisor admitted that this administration tops the list in corruption. If Siddaramaiah had any sense of dignity, he would have stepped down at the AICC convention itself. Ironically, the person who drafted the state budget is now being recognised for leading the most corrupt government. Minister Sudhakar claims the government has just taken off after two years, but in reality, they have misused funds meant for Dalits while focusing only on appeasing Muslims. This government has set new records in price hikes. Even the cost of drinking water in Bengaluru has gone up. Now they are talking about tabling the caste census in the Cabinet. But which report do they plan to implement — Kantharaj or Jayaprakash Hegde? The people of Karnataka deserve clarity. Siddaramaiah’s flip-flops will not be tolerated for long.”

Former minister Sriramulu said during the protest, “This government is deaf and blind. It has become impossible for common people to survive. When we protest in the Assembly, we are thrown out by marshals. Prices are being increased without any regard for protest. Unimaginable corruption has taken place in the state. Basavaraj Rayareddy himself has said Karnataka is number one in corruption. There is competition among ministers to indulge in corruption. They collect money and send it to the high command. Those who pay more are guaranteed a ministerial post for five years. Funds have been emptied in the Valmiki Corporation. Although Nagendra was involved in a Rs 187 crore scam, he was given a clean chit. Now, the Governor has permitted a CBI investigation. Vinay has become a victim of Congress’ atrocities. No Hindu activist should lose their life. Even though there are cases against him, Ponnanna walks around arrogantly. Our government will send Ponnanna to jail. Through this, BJP will bring peace to Vinay’s soul.”

Chaluvadi Narayan Swami, Vidhana Parishad opposition leader, said, “Congress knows very well that it will not return to power. The party is indulging in favouritism and corruption in the state. Have you taken Dalits on a contract? Funds reserved for the Scheduled Castes have been misused. Rahul Gandhi says the Constitution was written a thousand years ago. Did Dr B R Ambedkar not write the Constitution? This is an insult to Ambedkar and to the Dalit community. You wave around a small copy of the Constitution like a toy. Do you even know who actually drafted it?”

The protest rally began at Kalsanka Junction and proceeded to the Udupi district BJP office in Kadiyali. After the rally, a formal event was held near the BJP office.

Karnataka state BJP president B Y Vijayendra flagged off the protest by riding a bullock cart. Around 2,000 people participated in the protest. The formal event began with a protest song by Girish Anchan and team.

District BJP president Kishore Kumar Kundapura gave the introductory address. District BJP general secretary Dinakar Shetty Herga welcomed the gathering, and district general secretary Reshma Uday Shetty delivered the vote of thanks.

The event was attended by MPs Kota Srinivas Poojary and Capt Brijesh Chowta, MLAs Yashpal Suvarna, Suresh Shetty Gurme, Kiran Kumar Kodgi, and Gururaj Gantihole, MLCs N Ravikumar, Kishore Kumar, and Dr Dananjay Sarji, former MLAs Lalaji R Mendon, Haladi Srinivas Shetty, former minister Pramod Madwaraj, regional convenor K Udaykumar Shetty, former BJP district president Kuilady Suresh Nayak, CMC president Prabhakar Poojary, Udupi district BJP president Kishore Kumar Kundapura, and BJP leaders Dinesh Amin, Jithendra Shetty, Deepak Kumar, Suresh Shetty, Rajeev Shetty Gopady, among others.
