Varanasi, Apr 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, on Friday, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a slew of development projects worth an estimated Rs 3,880 cr.

The Prime Minister's visit will include a public address and the formal launch of 44 projects aimed at boosting both urban and rural infrastructure across the city and its surrounding areas. These initiatives are seen as a significant push to enhance civic amenities, connectivity, and service delivery in the spiritual capital of India.

Among the major inaugurations on the agenda are a newly built transit hostel at the Police Lines and upgraded police barracks in Ramnagar, which are expected to strengthen law enforcement infrastructure in the region.

In a bid to improve rural accessibility, four new roads will also be opened, facilitating smoother connectivity for residents in outlying areas. Urban development remains a key focus, with Prime Minister Modi slated to unveil beautification works at two of Varanasi’s iconic riverfronts—Shastri Ghat and Samne Ghat.

Several projects undertaken by Indian Railways and the Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) will also be inaugurated during the visit. These are aimed at enhancing both the aesthetic charm and utility of public spaces in the city.

Out of the 44 projects, foundation stones will be laid for 25 initiatives, collectively valued at around Rs 2,250 cr. A substantial portion of this investment will be directed toward strengthening the city’s power infrastructure. Plans include the establishment of 15 new power substations, installation of numerous transformers, and the laying of 1,500 kilometres of new power lines to ensure reliable electricity supply.

In anticipation of the high-profile visit, security arrangements have been significantly ramped up. Entry to the public meeting venue will be strictly monitored, with frisking checkpoints even along VIP corridors.

Drones and CCTV cameras have been deployed for real-time surveillance along the Prime Minister's route, and rooftop security teams have also been stationed at critical points. All police personnel on duty have been instructed to wear full uniforms with ID cards, avoid mobile phone usage while on duty, and adhere strictly to security protocols put in place for the Prime Minister’s visit.
