Mangaluru/Udupi, Apr 13: Christians across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts marked Palm Sunday on April 13 with solemnity and devotion, ushering in the beginning of Holy Week.

The day commemorates the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, where He was welcomed by crowds waving palm leaves and chanting "Hosanna." Following tradition, parishioners gathered at various churches holding blessed palm fronds and participated in processions through the streets, re-enacting the historic event.

In Mangaluru, Udupi, and several coastal parishes, the faithful marched together with prayers and hymns, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. Special masses were held across churches to celebrate the occasion.

Palm Sunday marks the start of Holy Week, the most sacred time in the Christian calendar, leading to the observances of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and culminating in the celebration of Easter.

Large numbers of devotees turned out for the services, as churches across the region resounded with the chant of "Hosanna," reaffirming their faith and devotion.

King Jesus, you sit on the throne of heaven with nail marks in your hands and feet. You have defeated death and the power of sin, and yet we still experience pain and suffering. As we wave these palm branches, we declare that you are our King, and we are your people. Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week and commemorates Jesus Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem, Glory and honor and praise be to you, Christ, King and Redeemer, to whom young children cried out loving Hosannas with joy. Wishing everyone a very Happy and a Blessed Palm Sunday. May the wonders of this season and the beauty of this day fill your hearts with joy and your life with love.
