Guntur, Apr 13: In a major fallout following the arrest of former MP and YSR Congress Party leader Gorantla Madhav, eleven police personnel in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur have been suspended for dereliction of duty while escorting him.
Madhav, who was arrested on Friday for allegedly assaulting an accused in police custody, was seen flouting rules during his medical check-up at Guntur General Hospital and while being produced before the court. A video surfaced showing him speaking on a mobile phone reportedly provided by a YSRCP leader and pulling up officers who asked him to wear a mask.

Taking serious note of the incident, higher authorities ordered an inquiry led by Guntur South DSP Bhanudaya. Following the report, Guntur Range IG took action against 11 officials, including a circle inspector, two sub-inspectors, and other lower-ranking officers.
Earlier, DSP (Special Branch) B Seetharamaiah was transferred in connection with the case and directed to report to the DGP’s office.
Madhav and five of his aides were remanded to 14-day judicial custody and sent to Nellore Jail. The arrests stemmed from an incident where the group allegedly intercepted a police vehicle and assaulted an accused Chebrolu Kiran who had made objectionable remarks against the wife of YSRCP chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Police say the group followed the official convoy and again attempted to intimidate both officers and the accused en route to Guntur headquarters, where another attack reportedly took place.
