Noida, Apr 14: In a heartwarming gesture, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday personally returned a mobile charger he had borrowed from a fellow passenger during a recent Emirates flight from Delhi to Dubai.
Taking to social media platform X, CM Sarma wrote, "Today, I returned the mobile charger I had borrowed from Deepak Kapoor, my fellow passenger on the Delhi–Dubai flight, at his Noida residence and offered his family an Assamese Gamocha as a token of gratitude. It brought me immense satisfaction."

The unexpected connection began last week when the Chief Minister, while travelling to Dubai, realised he had forgotten his phone charger. A young man seated next to him noticed and offered his international plug and charging cable without hesitation — unaware of his co-passenger's identity. The small act of kindness made a lasting impression.
“I wanted to ensure that his spirit of helping a stranger lives on a small tribute to a truly generous soul,” Sarma added.
However, during the flight, CM Sarma dozed off, and by the time he woke up, the aircraft had landed and the man had disembarked leaving behind his charger unknowingly.
Later, while in Amsterdam, the CM took to X to express regret and appeal for help to locate the man: “If this message reaches him, please send me a direct message so I can arrange to return your charger and cable promptly.”
His post quickly went viral, and with help from Assam Police and social media users, the mystery man — identified as Deepak Kapoor from Noida was located.
On Sunday, CM Sarma fulfilled his promise by visiting Kapoor’s residence, returning the charger, and honouring the family with an Assamese Gamocha, a traditional symbol of respect.
The heartfelt moment resonated widely online, with many praising the Chief Minister for acknowledging a simple act of kindness in such a thoughtful manner.
