Mangaluru: Palm Sunday commemorated with reverence at Pezar Holy Hill

Media Release

Mangaluru, Apr 14: To commemorate the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, hundreds of devotees gathered with true reverence at the Holy Hill at Pezar (Pejawara) for the Palm Sunday celebration.

At St Joseph’s Church, Pezar, Palm Sunday was celebrated with an Eucharistic celebration on April 13 at 8 am. The main celebrant was Bishop Emeritus of Mangaluru Diocese, Aloysius Paul D'Souza. The concelebrants were the parish priest Fr Ronald D'Souza and Fr Ivan Pinto.

In view of the jubilee year, some changes were made to the stations of the cross. These newly developed stations were inaugurated, and the main donor, Robert D'Souza from Surathkal, was honoured by Bishop Emeritus Aloysius Paul D'Souza on behalf of the parish priests and parishioners after the Eucharistic celebration.

Speaking on the occasion, Bishop Emeritus highlighted the 240-year history of the way of the cross at Pezar. He recalled how the ancestors had sacrificed their lives for their faith, for Jesus, and for Christianity. He urged the faithful to continue nurturing this devotion.

The programme concluded at 10.30 am with refreshments. Parishioner Anil D'Souza compered the event.
