Mangaluru, Apr 15: The investiture ceremony for the academic year 2025 was held on April 12 at St Ann’s College of Education (Autonomous), Mangaluru, with great enthusiasm and solemnity. The event commenced in the college conference hall and was a proud moment for the institution as it witnessed the formal induction of the newly elected student council.

The event was graced by the esteemed presence of the chief guest, Prof Joselyn T Lobo, retired associate professor and former dean, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru.

The programme began with a warm welcome and opening remarks by the master of ceremony, setting the tone with the thought-provoking quote: “Leadership is not about being in charge. It's about taking care of those in you are charge”. This was followed by a soulful invocation led by Jovita Tellis and her team.

The oath-taking ceremony, led gracefully by the principal Dr Sr Dorothy D’Souza AC, marked a significant moment where the newly elected student council pledged to perform their duties with honesty and dedication. Each council member accepted the responsibility to lead, serve and uphold the values of the institution.

The highlight of the ceremony was the message by the chief guest, Prof Joselyn T Lobo, who delivered an enriching and reflective talk on leadership. He emphasized that leadership is not limited to elected roles and urged that leaders must be open, approachable, and responsive, and should act wisely in challenging situations. Using the metaphor of a teabag, he said, “Leadership, like a teabag, is revealed when immersed in hot water and when challenges arise”. Prof Lobo highlighted the seven Cs of leadership: communication, collaboration, creativity, confidence, critical thinking, commitment and compassion and that teachers must be continuous learners and readers, which is vital for leadership. The ceremony concluded on a high note with words of encouragement and congratulations to the newly elected council. The event successfully instilled a sense of purpose, responsibility, and unity among the students, making it a memorable and meaningful occasion.

Dr Sr Dorothy D’Souza, principal, welcomed the gathering. Fathimath Nisha, student president, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Alicia Princita Monteiro, II BEd. Dr Sharmila L Mascarenhas, assistant professor and staff in-charge of the student council, coordinated the programme.
