Udupi, Apr 15: The Karnataka State Youth Congress has announced a statewide protest against the central government's continuous price hikes, as per the directive of the state youth congress president in Bengaluru. Ajith Kumar, secretary of the State Youth Congress, stated that the Udupi district unit will extend full support to the protest.

Speaking to Daijiworld in Udupi, state youth congress general secretary Ajith Kumar strongly condemned the BJP-led central government for burdening the common people by increasing the prices of essential commodities like petrol, diesel, and milk.

He said, “The BJP’s so-called ‘Janakrosh’ protest against the Karnataka government is fake. The price of 8 grams of gold during the Congress rule at the Centre was around Rs 28,000. Now, under the BJP government, it has risen to nearly Rs 98,000.”

Accusing the BJP of “cutting into the pockets of the public” through relentless price hikes and increased taxation, Ajith Kumar stated that Karnataka deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar will lead a massive protest under the banner of ‘Janakrosha’ on April 17 in Bengaluru.

“The BJP lost its power because it failed to work for the welfare of the people. Instead of causing communal disturbances, they should focus on development. The central government is responsible for the price hike, but it is now trying to shift the blame to the state,” he added.

Quoting the deputy chief minister’s press meet, he said that nearly 40,000 people are expected to participate in the protest. “In Udupi district, we have already staged a protest at Brahmagiri and similar protests will be held in every block going forward,” he said.

Ajith Kumar added that the Youth Congress from Udupi district will actively take part in the protest to showcase their unity and to send a strong message to the BJP-led central government.
