Patna, Apr 15: In a major breakthrough, Khagaria Police on Tuesday arrested three people in connection with the brutal murder of Kaushal Singh, the nephew of JDU MLA Panna Lal Patel. The case, which has sent shockwaves through the political circles of Bihar, is being treated as a high-profile criminal conspiracy.

The murder took place on April 10 under the jurisdiction of Choutham police station in Khagaria district. According to police sources, Kaushal Singh was riding a motorcycle when he was allegedly intercepted and rammed by three bikers. After he fell to the ground, the attackers shot him at point-blank range, killing him on the spot.

Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar confirmed the arrest of Rajkumari Devi, her son Ashish Kumar, and another accused, Ritesh Kumar, who had reportedly been absconding since the day of the crime.

“We have registered an FIR under murder and criminal conspiracy clauses of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) against eight individuals. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed and a manhunt is underway to nab the remaining accused,” SP Kumar told.

The accused were traced and apprehended from Jamui district following a tip-off.

Though preliminary findings point towards a possible property dispute, the SP said the exact motive is still under investigation. Given the victim's political lineage, the police have not ruled out other angles. “We are exploring all leads, including personal rivalry, political enmity, or local disputes,” he said.

The deceased, Kaushal Singh, was not only the nephew of Panna Lal Patel, the JD-U MLA from Beldaur constituency, but also regarded as an emerging youth leader in the region. His murder has left the local political fraternity and his supporters in deep shock.

MLA Panna Lal Patel, who won the 2020 Bihar Assembly election, is a well-known political figure in Khagaria district, and has demanded swift justice for his slain nephew.

Police have stepped up security and investigation efforts, as the case continues to draw public and political attention across the state.
