Raichur, Apr 18: A tragic road accident claimed the lives of four people and left two others injured near Amarpura in Karnataka’s Raichur district on Friday. The victims, all residents of Hindupur in Telangana, were en route to Shahapura in Yadgir district to attend a sheep fair when the mishap occurred.

The deceased have been identified as Nagaraj (28), Somu (38), Nagabhushan (36), and Murali (38). They were travelling in a goods vehicle when the driver, allegedly speeding, lost control and slammed into the parapet of a bridge.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the four passengers seated in the front section of the vehicle died on the spot. The driver, identified as Anand, sustained serious injuries and was immediately taken to the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for treatment.

A surviving passenger, now recovering, told police they had rested after dinner around 10 p.m. and were unaware of who was behind the wheel when the accident occurred. He reportedly regained consciousness only after being given water by police personnel at the scene.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, which adds to a disturbing pattern of fatal accidents across Karnataka this month.

Earlier on April 11, a devastating crash between a goods vehicle and a state-run bus in Yadgir district left four people dead, including three women from the same family. On April 5, five individuals were killed and 11 injured when a mini-bus rammed a stationary truck near Jevargi town in Kalaburagi district. They were reportedly on a pilgrimage to the revered Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah.

In yet another heartbreaking incident on April 3, four people heading to a funeral lost their lives after a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation luxury bus collided with their car on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway.

These consecutive tragedies have raised fresh concerns about road safety, driver fatigue, and enforcement of traffic regulations across the state.
