New Delhi, April 19: Following a refreshing spell of rain and thunderstorms that swept across Delhi-NCR on Friday evening, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more such weather events over the weekend and into the early part of next week.

Friday's weather brought much-needed relief from the unrelenting heat, as areas like Burari, Rohini, Badli, Model Town, and Karawal Nagar recorded light to moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds and lightning. This sudden downpour helped push temperatures down and brought temporary relief for residents and animals alike.

The IMD stated that the maximum temperature for Saturday, April 19, will hover around 38°C, with a minimum of 26°C. Sunday is expected to remain cloudy, with similar conditions and temperatures dipping slightly to a minimum of 25°C.

Cloudy skies will persist till Monday, with daytime highs at around 39°C. While this overcast spell offers a break from the heatwave-like conditions, strong winds are expected to lash the region on April 22. Despite the gusty winds, no significant drop in temperature is expected, with highs continuing at 39°C and lows at 25°C.

However, this relief is projected to be short-lived. From April 23 onward, the mercury is expected to rise again, potentially touching the 40°C mark.

The recent thunderstorms caused disruptions across the region, with reports of uprooted trees and fallen branches leading to power outages in several parts of Delhi-NCR. In Western Uttar Pradesh, the storm’s impact was more severe, resulting in falling billboards and collapsed walls, tragically claiming lives and prompting ongoing rescue and relief efforts by local authorities.
