Mumbai, Apr 20: Controversial filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has landed in fresh trouble as a new police complaint has been registered against him at Oshiwara Police Station, Mumbai, for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the Brahmin community. The complaint has been filed by RTI activist Atish Tiwari, in the wake of Kashyap’s provocative social media post made on April 18.

The post in question triggered widespread outrage as Kashyap responded to a comment with an explicit statement targeting the Brahmin community. His remark seen by many as casteist and derogatory quickly went viral, prompting backlash from various quarters across the country.

The FIR has been lodged under sections 194 and 198 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with Section 67 of the IT Act. In his complaint, Tiwari mentioned, “As a member of the Brahmin community, we are deeply anguished by the accused’s repeated use of vulgar, caste-specific language. Such remarks defame an entire community and fuel hatred under the guise of freedom of expression.”

Kashyap, known for films like Gangs of Wasseypur, had written, “Brahmin pe main m*******a...koi problem?” in reply to a follower’s comment that read “Brahmins are your father.”

While the filmmaker later posted a note claiming the controversial line was taken out of context, he stopped short of retracting his words. “This is my apology not for the post, but for the one line taken out of context and the brewing hatred,” he wrote, adding that his loved ones were being subjected to rape and death threats in the aftermath.

Despite the apology, the uproar continues to grow, with more complaints being filed nationwide.
