Madhya Pradesh, Apr 20: A disturbing video has surfaced from Chhatarpur District Hospital, Madhya Pradesh, showing a doctor allegedly assaulting and dragging an elderly man, triggering widespread outrage and raising serious concerns over the treatment of patients in government healthcare institutions.

The incident, reportedly captured on April 17 and now viral across social media, shows a man—identified as Uddhavlal, believed to be over 70 years old—being slapped and forcibly dragged by a doctor and hospital staff. According to initial reports, the man was seeking urgent treatment for his ailing wife when the shocking episode unfolded.

Speaking to the media, Uddhavlal recounted that he was waiting in a queue for treatment when the doctor confronted him. “The crowd was large, and I was simply asking for help for my wife who is suffering from a stomach vein problem. I couldn’t stand in the queue for long, and when I asked for quicker assistance, the doctor became angry and started hitting me,” he said with visible distress.

The video footage, which has since drawn widespread criticism, allegedly shows the doctor slapping the senior citizen near his ear before dragging him across the hospital premises and threatening to detain him at the hospital’s police outpost.

Local authorities have taken cognizance of the matter. A senior police official confirmed to IANS that an inquiry is underway. “The viral footage forms part of our preliminary investigation. An FIR will be registered, and the concerned doctor will be questioned. The doctor has also filed a counter-complaint,” the official noted.

Adding a political dimension to the incident, Madhya Pradesh Congress State President Jitu Patwari shared the video on social media, condemning the act in strong terms. In his post, Patwari stated, “A 75-year-old man was kicked, punched, dragged, and thrown out by doctors and staff. His only mistake was requesting swift treatment for his wife due to her serious condition. Is this how our healthcare system treats the elderly?”

He further tagged the state’s Chief Minister and lambasted the government, saying, “A government that fails to ensure dignity for the elderly should hang its head in shame. Health security is a basic right. A system that ignores it has no moral right to govern.”

The incident has sparked heated debates around patient rights, accountability in government hospitals, and the urgent need for medical staff training in public sensitivity and crisis response.

As outrage continues to mount, both the hospital administration and state health authorities are under intense scrutiny. More developments are expected as investigations progress.
