Bengaluru, Apr 20: In a shocking incident, retired Karnataka DGP and IGP OM Prakash was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife Pallavi at their residence in HSR Layout, Bengaluru, on Sunday, April 20 afternoon.
OM Prakash, a 1981 batch IPS officer from the Karnataka cadre, had served as the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DGP and IGP) in 2015 before retiring in 2017. On Sunday, he was found lying in a pool of blood at his home, and preliminary investigations revealed he had been murdered.

According to police sources, Pallavi, the wife of the deceased, has been taken into custody for questioning after it was suspected that she was directly involved in the killing.
Reports suggest that OM Prakash had been facing financial difficulties, and tensions within the family had been building over monetary issues. He had allegedly taken substantial loans, which led to frequent arguments at home. Police are probing whether a quarrel over finances may have triggered the crime.
Sources also claim that OM Prakash had transferred ownership of his property directly to his son, bypassing his wife, which may have angered her. These claims, however, are yet to be verified officially.
OM Prakash hailed from the Champaran district of Bihar. After joining the IPS, he began his career in Karnataka as ASP of Harapanahalli in the then Ballari district. Over the years, he served as SP in Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, and Chikkamagaluru districts, among others.
He held various key posts during his service, including SP of Karnataka Vigilance Cell, positions in the Lokayukta, DIG of Fire Services, and IGP of CID. He played a crucial role during the 1993 Bhatkal communal riots and served in senior roles such as DIG (Administration), DIG (Northern Range), DIG (Training), ADGP (Crime and Technical Services), and ADGP (Grievances and Human Rights). He assumed office as DGP and IGP on February 28, 2015, and retired in 2017.
Further investigation is underway, and police have not yet released an official statement confirming the motive.
