Hoshiarpur, Apr 22: A petty dispute over a mere Rs 20 escalated into a tragic incident, resulting in the murder of a 25-year-old youth, Sanjeet, in the street vendor market. The shocking incident has left the local community shaken, with the market remaining closed on Monday in protest. A sit-in was staged outside the market gate by the victim’s family and locals, demanding justice.

Rakesh Kumar, the deceased’s brother, explained that Sanjeet had been hired for cleaning and watchman duties in the vegetable market and was collecting Rs 20 daily from shopkeepers in return for his services. A few days ago, a disagreement over the payment occurred with a group working in the market. The situation turned violent on Sunday night around 11 pm when the accused attacked Sanjeet with knives and other deadly weapons, severely injuring him.

Despite being rushed to several hospitals in Hoshiarpur, Sanjeet’s condition worsened, and he was referred to DMC Ludhiana. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries late last night during treatment.

Rakesh Kumar stated in his police complaint that three individuals, identified as Sonu, Pritam, and Santokh, were involved in the murder. Following this, the Model Town Police Station, led by SHO Gursahib Singh, registered a case and arrested one of the accused, Sonu. Efforts are underway to apprehend the two absconding suspects.

The police have confirmed that the post-mortem examination will be conducted on Tuesday, and further investigations are ongoing.
