New Delhi, Apr 22: On the occasion of Earth Day 2025, leaders across India celebrated the day with a renewed focus on sustainability, environmental conservation, and ecological responsibility. Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the government's ongoing efforts to promote sustainable development while emphasizing the need to safeguard Mother Earth for future generations.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Shah offered his heartfelt greetings to the nation, stressing the importance of collective action for a greener, more sustainable future. He wrote, “Heartfelt greetings to all on World Earth Day. Mother Earth cradles life and nourishes the ecosystem necessary for us to grow and evolve. It is our duty to return the benevolence with the utmost care to protect and enhance the health of Mother Earth.”

He went on to add, “The Modi government is steering global initiatives for sustainable development, serving the cause with unwavering commitment. I also applaud the conservationists who are working towards making our planet better.”

Shah’s message came alongside his scheduled attendance at the 'Save The Earth Conclave: Bamboo for a Resilient Future', hosted by the Phoenix Foundation in New Delhi.

Echoing similar sentiments, Union Health Minister JP Nadda emphasized India’s environmental projects spearheaded by the Modi government. In his message, he said, “On World Earth Day, we come together to celebrate our planet and raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation. Let’s not limit this commitment to just one day -- every action we take should reflect our duty towards Mother Earth.”

Nadda highlighted key initiatives under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam', 'Namami Gange Programme', and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which encourage citizens to protect the environment.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also called for active participation in Earth Day conservation efforts, urging people to plant trees and care for them.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid tribute to the nation’s cultural ethos, calling for a greener Earth. He emphasized the importance of the slogan, “Mata Bhoomi: Putroham Prithivya”—"The Earth is our Mother; we are her children."

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, inspired by PM Modi’s leadership, reaffirmed her commitment to building a greener and cleaner capital. She wrote, “Let’s join hands to protect our environment, conserve our resources, and leave behind a healthier planet for generations to come. Together, let’s build a Green Delhi.”

In a further commitment to sustainable urban mobility, Gupta was set to launch over 250 electric buses in Delhi, a transformative step in reducing pollution and improving last-mile connectivity. Unfortunately, the launch was postponed due to national mourning following the passing of Pope Francis.

The combined efforts of India’s leaders on Earth Day reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to eco-conscious policies and global environmental stewardship.
