Udupi, Apr 22: The VTU Mangalore Division Intercollegiate Volleyball Tournament (Men) 2025 was successfully conducted at Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, bringing together teams from various engineering colleges affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Mangalore Division.
The event showcased exceptional sportsmanship and enthusiasm among participants.




The tournament commenced with a grand inauguration at the college grounds. The chief guest, Dr Radhakrishna S Aithal, chief executive officer of Shri Sode Vadiraja Mutt Educational Institutions, graced the occasion, while the event was presided over by Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, Principal of SMVITM.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Aithal emphasised the importance of physical education in holistic development and highlighted how volleyball contributes to fitness and cardiac health. He encouraged participants to continue their engagement in sports and praised SMVITM for organizing the tournament successfully.
In his presidential address, Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat urged students to focus on mental, physical, and social well-being, emphasising that playing sports is crucial for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. He extended his best wishes to all participating teams, encouraging them to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship.
A total of 14 teams from various engineering colleges participated in the tournament, making it a highly competitive event. Paul Suraj, physical education director, and Shubhashree, physical education instructor, introduced the teams to the distinguished guests. Referees and sports officials ensured the smooth conduct of matches.
The event proceedings included an invocation by Aditya Deshpande, a sixth-semester computer science engineering student, and the introduction of the chief guest by Soundarya, assistant professor in the CSE department. Preethi, senior assistant professor from CSE department compered the event.
The tournament concluded on a high note, leaving participants and spectators with memorable moments of teamwork, determination, and camaraderie. SMVITM’s efforts in successfully organizing the tournament were widely appreciated, further reinforcing its commitment to promoting sports and physical education.
