Udupi, Jan 20: Chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda inaugurated ‘Nayana’, a free eye check-up camp that was organized by city-based Prasad Netralaya on Wednesday January 18.
Speaking on the occasion, Gowda said that the blind people in society are neglected by a majority of people while Prasad Netralaya, headed by Dr Krishna Prasad, strives to serve visually challenged persons with a poor economic background out of their societal concern.
Parivar Samudaya Abhivraddi Trust chairman MLA K Raghupati Bhat, who led the programme said that such camps had already been held in Uppoor and Kunjalu and were attended by 593 people. “Spectacles were distributed to 332 people and 110 people underwent cataract surgery. This camp will be held on three Sundays of the month in different localities across the district,” he added.
State higher education minister Dr V S Acharya conveyed best wishes for the programme. Nadoja Dr G Shankar distributed free spectacles on the occasion.
Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, former state minister Vasant V Salian, DK and Udupi District Fisheries Marketing Federation president Yashpal A Suvarna, town councilor Kiran Kumar, former councilor Somashekar Bhat, DC Dr M T Reju, Netra Jyoti Charitable Trust chairman retired deputy conservator of forests K Raghuram Rao and T Sukumar were present on the dais.
The state BJP Youth Morcha president V Sunil Kumar, district BJP president Uday Kumar Shetty, APMC president Kuyilady Suresh Nayak, and Andaru Deviprasad Shetty were also present on the occasion.
Dr K Krishnaprasad welcomed the gathering. Professor Balakrishna Muddody compered the programme.
