Yadgir, Apr 27: District Health Officer (DHO) Mahesh Biradar emphasized the collective responsibility of the community to prevent and eradicate malaria. He was speaking after flagging off an awareness drive on World Malaria Day in Yadgir on Friday.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Biradar pointed out that malaria is primarily spread by the bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito, which carries the Plasmodium parasite in its saliva. He stressed the importance of eliminating breeding grounds, such as stagnant water in ponds or containers, to curb the spread of malaria.

The awareness drive began at Gandhi Circle and made its way through major roads, concluding at the DHO’s office.

Vector Borne Disease Control officer M A Sajid advised the public to seek immediate testing if symptoms such as fever, chills, headache, nausea, and abdominal or muscle pain occur. He also appealed to everyone to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings to prevent the spread of the disease.
