Udupi, Apr 27: In the wake of the terrorist attack that claimed the lives of innocent tourists in Pahalgam, Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, heightened security measures have been enforced along Karnataka’s coastline. Security has been intensified across various coastal areas in Udupi district.

The Indian Coast Guard and the Udupi district coastal security police are jointly exchanging intelligence information and carrying out coordinated operations to ensure safety.

Continuous patrolling

With concerns about possible terrorist activities via the coastal route, the coastal security police have been conducting continuous patrolling operations. In Udupi district, there are nine coastal security police stations, and patrolling is being carried out using 13 boats.

Advisory to fishermen

Fishermen engaged in deep-sea fishing have been advised to stay alert. They have been instructed to immediately report any suspicious boat movements or sighting of suspicious foreign nationals at sea.

Checks at religious and tourist spots

Various intelligence agencies have already started gathering information through multiple channels. Search operations are being conducted using dog squads at Malpe Beach, port areas, Sri Krishna Math, railway stations, and other religious and tourist destinations. Members of the Sea Rescue Division (SRD) are stationed in rural areas to gather information from the local population. So far, no suspicious individuals have been found.

No Pakistani nationals in Udupi District

Following directives from the central and state governments, checks are being conducted across the country to trace Pakistani nationals. The police department has confirmed that there are no Pakistani citizens residing in Udupi district, said district superintendent of police Dr Arun K.

Heightened vigilance by coastal security police

"Following the terror attack in Kashmir, like all security agencies, the coastal security police have also enforced stringent measures. We are maintaining heightened vigilance along the 320 km coastal stretch under our jurisdiction. Continuous patrolling is underway with our boats, and security has been intensified at beach points. We are also coordinating joint patrolling and intelligence sharing with the Indian Coast Guard," said Mithun H N, SP, Coastal Security Police.
