New Delhi, April 28: In a heart-wrenching incident, two children tragically lost their lives, and five others were injured after a devastating fire broke out in a jhuggi cluster in Rohini on Sunday morning. The fire also engulfed over 800 makeshift homes, leaving hundreds of families displaced.

The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received an emergency call at around 11:55 AM on Sunday. In response, 20 fire tenders were dispatched to the site. As the fire intensified, additional fire engines were brought in, escalating the response to a medium-category fire, bringing the total number of fire tenders to 26.

Despite the best efforts of the firefighters, thick clouds of smoke covered the settlement, hampering their access to the fire-affected area. The narrow lanes and densely packed slums proved to be a significant challenge. After over three hours of continuous battle, the fire was finally brought under control.

Unfortunately, during the firefighting operation, the bodies of two children—aged two-and-a-half and three years old—were discovered among the rubble. The bodies were recovered and sent to a nearby hospital.

According to initial reports, the fire might have originated from one of the huts and rapidly spread across the settlement. Preliminary investigations suggest that the presence of LPG cylinders and faulty electrical wiring may have contributed to the fire's quick escalation.

Access to the fire site was complicated by the nearby apartment complex with boundary walls, which obstructed direct entry and delayed firefighting efforts. Authorities are still conducting a cooling operation at the scene.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic deaths, particularly the loss of the two young children. "The death of two children in the fire is extremely painful. I appeal to all local workers to fully cooperate with the administration in the relief and rescue efforts," said Kejriwal.

Delhi government officials, including local MLA and SDM, were quick to reach the spot to coordinate relief efforts. Temporary shelters, medical assistance, mobile toilets, and food supplies are being arranged for the affected families. Displaced families are being moved to nearby schools where necessary facilities are being provided.

The Delhi government has assured full support to the victims of this tragic fire, and authorities are working round the clock to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected residents.
