Jabalpur, Apr 28: A shadow of horror has fallen over Khagamau village in the Jabalpur district, as authorities reported today the sexual assault of a defenseless four-year-old girl. The young victim was targeted while walking alone towards a nearby wedding venue from her home under the jurisdiction of the Majhgawan police station.
According to the investigating officer, Dhannu Singh, the family’s male members had already proceeded to the wedding. Around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 26th, the child, dressed for the occasion, playfully ventured towards the venue, intending to join her father and siblings. Her mother followed later. This brief window of solitude tragically provided an opportunity for an unidentified assailant to commit the appalling act.

The agonizing discovery was made when the mother and other female relatives reached the wedding and found the child missing, prompting an immediate search. After a harrowing few hours, a local female worker found the girl by the roadside, her small body trembling with fear and her cries uncontrollable, the officer recounted.
Upon being taken home, bloodstains on her clothing revealed the horrifying truth, compelling her mother to seek immediate police intervention. Regrettably, the absence of a female police officer at the station at that time caused a delay in officially registering the complaint, which was finally done in the early hours of April 27th. The case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 137 (2), 64, and 65 (2), as well as sections 5 and 6 of the POCSO Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act), which address offenses such as kidnapping, rape, and sexual assault against a child. Medical examination has since unequivocally confirmed the sexual assault on the innocent child.
Following the registration of the complaint, law enforcement swiftly launched an investigation, detaining several individuals for questioning. The young victim is currently receiving medical care and treatment in a hospital. The investigating officer further stated that witnesses had seen the girl heading towards the wedding venue alone, leading to the suspicion that the perpetrator might be connected to the wedding guests. It is believed the accused abducted the child, took her to a secluded location, committed the crime under the cover of darkness, and then fled.
The police are relentlessly pursuing all leads to identify and apprehend the culprit, and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
