Kasargod, Apr 28: A young arecanut trader was injured after being hit by a bullet near Kajeppadavu, close to the Karnataka border at Mudipu, within the Manjeshwar police station limits, late Sunday night.

The injured has been identified as Savad (20), a resident of Nadibailu, Bakrabail. The incident occurred while he was walking along a forest path near a curve at Kajeppadavu on Sunday evening. Savad sustained a serious leg injury and was immediately admitted to the hospital for treatment.

According to preliminary reports, hunters who had come to the forest to target wild boars had placed an explosive device along the path. It is suspected that Savad accidentally stepped on it while walking, leading to the injury.

The Manjeshwar police stated that a search is on to trace the person responsible for setting up the device. An investigation into the incident is underway.

Manjeshwar MLA A K M Ashraf, former zilla panchayat standing committee president Harshad Varkady, and other leaders visited the scene following the incident.
