Jaipur, Apr 29: The summer blaze has gripped Rajasthan with unprecedented intensity this April, as desert towns sizzle under record-breaking temperatures. Jaisalmer witnessed the mercury surge to 46.2°C — breaking a six-year-old April record — while Barmer emerged as the hottest spot in the state at a blistering 46.4°C, a staggering 4.3°C above normal.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that a severe heat wave is sweeping across the state, with daytime temperatures soaring well above seasonal averages. Relief, however, may be on the horizon, with storms and light rain forecast from May 1 onward as a new weather system activates over the region.

In the past 24 hours, numerous cities in Rajasthan recorded alarming heat levels. Jodhpur touched 44.4°C — its highest in five years — while Bhilwara stood at 43.2°C, Kota at 44.6°C, and Chittorgarh and Vanasthali hovered near 44.4°C and 44.2°C respectively. Even Jaipur and Alwar crossed 42°C.

In several districts, including Phalodi, Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jalore, and Pilani, the temperature breached 40°C well before noon, intensifying the discomfort among residents.

Fatehpur (Sikar) provided some slight contrast with the lowest minimum temperature recorded at 20.4°C. Only Pratapgarh and Hanumangarh managed to stay below the 40°C threshold, offering a fleeting reprieve.

With the summer heat arriving early and with ferocity, health officials have urged citizens to stay indoors during peak hours, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions to avoid heatstroke and dehydration.

As Rajasthan braces for two more days of extreme heat, all eyes remain on the forecasted storm system, offering a much-needed break from the punishing temperatures.
