Mangaluru, May 2: The rowdy-sheeter Suhas Shetty in Bajpe has sparked widespread outrage, with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Dakshina Kannada district unit, calling for a district-wide bandh on Friday, May 3, from 6 am to 6 pm.

The bandh received significant support across various parts of Ullal taluk, where many shops and commercial establishments remained closed in protest. Areas including Talapady, Kotekar, Beeri, Thokkottu Junction, Asaigoli, Konaje, and Mudipu saw full participation, with shutters down throughout the day.

Though city buses operated during early hours, incidents of stone pelting were reported near Pumpwell and from the Inoli area towards Urva Store. As a result, all bus services on the Talapady, Konaje, Mudipu, and B C Road routes were suspended.

Passengers travelling from distant locations to Ullal Uroos, Deralakatte hospitals, and medical colleges had to rely on auto-rickshaws due to the halt in bus operations.

In response to the situation, police commissioner Anupam Agrawal has enforced prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) across the jurisdiction of the Mangaluru city police commissionerate. The prohibitory orders will remain in effect until May 6.
