Mangaluru, May 2: The deputy commissioner has issued an order prohibiting the sale of liquor in the taluks of Belthangady, Puttur, Kadaba, and Sullia in Dakshina Kannada district.
As per the directive, all toddy shops and liquor outlets are to remain closed, and the sale of all types of intoxicants is strictly banned.

The ban comes in the wake of the murder of rowdy sheeter and activist Suhas Shetty by miscreants in the jurisdiction of the Bajpe police station under the Mangaluru police commissionerate. The deceased hailed from the Punjalkatte region of Bantwal taluk.
Authorities have stated that the situation in the district is akin to “embers hidden under ash,” indicating simmering tensions. There is concern that anti-social elements, under the influence of intoxicants, may cause untoward incidents, thereby disrupting law and order.
In light of this, orders have been issued to close all liquor outlets in the taluks of Bantwal, Belthangady, Puttur, Kadaba, and Sullia from May 2 to May 4, 6 am, the order further stated.
