Dialogue Will Settle Beating Up Incident of Bangladeshi Man: Pranab

Kolkata, Jan 21 (IANS) India and Bangladesh will settle through dialogue the beating up of a suspected Bangladeshi cattle smuggler by Indian border force personnel that has caused outrage, and it will have no impact on relations, union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said here Saturday.

"Such things happen from time to time. There is no need to blow up such incidents," Mukherjee told mediapersons at his residence here.

"The two countries will settle the matter through dialogue," he said.

Eight Border Security Force (BSF) soldiers were suspended Wednesday in the wake of circulation of a video clip allegedly showing the men beating a naked man, whose hands were tied behind his back, near the Indo-Bangla border in Murshidabad. The footage was aired by news channels, triggering outrage.

The BSF has also ordered a high level probe, headed by an officer of the rank of commandant, into the incident.

The punishment has given to our Border security men will definitely cost a big price for India in future. In a day thousands of infiltrators cross the boundary & they involve in smuggling, looting, drug and arm trafficking. Our security men definitely distressed by seeing them & thought to take firm action. But those eight BSF men now paid a big price. They lost their job. Here onwards our soldiers won’t take a risk of losing their job. Our wise government sent a very good message to next batch of infiltrators and terrorists who are waiting for cross the border

I think our wise government sent a very good message to next batch of infiltrators and terrorists who are waiting for cross the border.
