Patiala, May 8: In a heart-wrenching tragedy that shook the region, five school students lost their lives in a gruesome road accident near Nassupur on the Patiala-Samana Road on Wednesday. The fatal incident occurred when a sand-laden tipper truck collided head-on with a private vehicle transporting the students back home.
According to preliminary information, the students were on their way to Samana after attending school in Patiala when the collision took place. The sheer impact of the crash caused the student vehicle to veer off the road and crash into a tree, crushing its front section completely. Eyewitnesses described a horrifying scene, with the vehicle mangled beyond recognition. Rescue teams had to deploy a crane to extricate the bodies trapped inside the wreckage.

Tragically, five students succumbed to their injuries on the spot, while one more student remains in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment at Government Rajindra Hospital.
Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh is expected to visit the hospital to personally review the medical care being provided to the injured survivor and extend support to the bereaved families.
The devastating incident has sent shockwaves across Patiala and nearby regions, prompting renewed calls for stricter road safety enforcement and monitoring of overloaded and speeding heavy vehicles on school routes.
May the departed souls rest in peace, and may the injured student recover swiftly.
