New Delhi, May 9: In light of the escalating tensions following Operation Sindoor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday chaired a high-level security review meeting with secretaries from key ministries, stressing the need for heightened vigilance and seamless coordination among departments during what he termed a “sensitive period” for the nation.

Following a detailed early-morning security briefing by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, the Prime Minister held a closed-door meeting at the PMO with the heads of core ministries. The session focused on evaluating national preparedness, strengthening emergency response mechanisms, and safeguarding vital infrastructure amid emerging national security concerns.

"The current situation demands institutional synergy, constant alertness and clear communication," the Prime Minister reportedly told officials, emphasizing the importance of operational continuity across all ministries.

According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the discussions included bolstering civil defence frameworks, tackling disinformation campaigns, and securing critical government and civilian infrastructure across the country.

Ministries were directed to conduct a thorough review of their protocols to ensure readiness, rapid response, and uninterrupted internal communication. Special attention was also given to ensuring effective collaboration with state governments and ground-level agencies for enhanced responsiveness.

Cabinet Secretary T V Somanathan, Defence Secretary R K Singh, Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and senior representatives from the ministries of Health, Information & Broadcasting, Power, and Telecommunications were present at the meeting.

All ministries presented their strategies to ensure uninterrupted functioning and readiness to handle contingencies. The government said all departments are actively refining their standard operating procedures and response measures as part of a whole-of-government approach.

The high-level meet coincided with an all-party briefing at the Parliament House Complex led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, where opposition parties sought the Prime Minister’s presence amid rising tensions with Pakistan.

The Centre reaffirmed its commitment to protecting national interests and upholding security, urging all departments to remain on high alert as the nation navigates a critical period of geopolitical and internal challenges.
