Udupi, May 9: Traffic congestion at Katapady Junction created a significant bottleneck on the afternoon of Friday, May 9, as the weekend rush and the ongoing wedding season led to a surge in vehicle numbers, causing chaos for commuters.
Motorists were left stranded in traffic for over 30 minutes, experiencing delays and growing frustration. The Shriva road, a major thoroughfare, was completely blocked, further compounding the issue. This junction has long been a notorious trouble spot, with heavy congestion occurring regularly, particularly during peak hours and weekends.

Though the tender for the construction of an underpass at Katapady Junction has been approved, work has yet to begin. Local residents and daily commuters have been urging authorities for years to address the growing traffic problems, with the underpass seen as an essential solution.
Traffic police were deployed to regulate the situation and ease the flow of vehicles, but the sheer volume of traffic proved too much to manage effectively.
Sources indicate that ongoing construction projects on the National Highway are exacerbating the issue. The construction of the underpass, though approved, has been delayed due to these works, further adding to the traffic woes in the area.
Residents and commuters are calling for a long-term solution to the recurring traffic issues at Katapady, with many hoping the underpass will finally alleviate the chaos once construction begins.
