Mangaluru, May 13: The Central Library hosted an insightful VTU consortium training programme, focused on EBSCO Engineering Suite, AMA Micro Courses, and IEEE Xplore. This training session, was aimed at 6th-semester students, research scholars, and faculty members, with a special focus on enhancing research skills and professional development.
Over 150 participants, including students from all departments, faculty members, research scholars, deans, heads of departments and library staff, attended the event and benefited from the insightful training.




The session was led by M S Srinivasa, training manager for EBSCO-IEEE (South India), and was both informative and well-structured. The session provided hands-on experience with navigating both platforms, focusing on utilizing advanced search features in EBSCO - IEEE Xplore. The trainer, expertly demonstrated how to maximize these tools for enhancing research capabilities and academic output.
The session highlighted the following platforms:
1. EBSCO Engineering Suite – A vast database offering access to a wealth of engineering research articles, journals, and scholarly publications.
2. AMA Micro Courses – Industry-relevant courses designed to equip students with essential skills for career success.
3. IEEE Xplore – A leading digital library for cutting-edge research papers, technical reports, and industry standards in engineering and technology.
The event kicked off with a welcome address by Dr Bharathi K, the librarian, followed by an informative session introduction by Sudheer Shetty, vice principal. Dr Shamanth Rai, dean of academics, provided an overview of the programme and introduced the training manager. Dr S S Injaganeri, principal, delivered the presidential remarks, and the session was MCed by Smitha Shenoy, AAO, with a vote of thanks from Dr Shwetha Kumari, assistant librarian.
The event also included an online quiz competition, where participants engaged with the session’s content and won exciting prizes.
The hands-on session offered participants an excellent opportunity to explore and interact with industry-standard research tools, which will undoubtedly enhance their academic output and job-readiness.
